Come out to Philly Rising, the first Tuesday of every month at World Cafe Live! All genres and bands are welcome. Each act plays one to two songs. Performance slots come on a first come first served basis and tend to fill up fast. There will only be two slots available for performers that perform to pre-recorded tracks in the first half of the night, which will give more room for live performers. Tracks must be downloaded to a device that has a headphone jack. So if you're a musician, band, poet, comedian, etc. or know someone who is come out and have some fun. For those of you who may be looking for other musicians to round out your lineup it's a great place to network. Sponsored By:

Experimental rock band from the Palm Desert, CA, USA, formed in 1986. American stoner/hard rock band from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Founded in 2003. Travel to distant planets, magical worlds and into the depths of stellar light with the instrumental exploits of Monsters Eat People. American female fronted hard/alternative rock and heavy metal band. They are especially heavily rooted in the psychedelic rock genre. Members of Ruby The Hatchet, are based in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The Age Of Truth is a band, a brotherhood and a mission. Four brothers-in-arms from Philadelphia united in the singular pursuit of making the most honest heaviness this broken world can handle. Perfect for an age where only the truth is acceptable as anything less will be revealed soon enough. "...Wasted Theory plays their own version of heavy stoner metal with some 70's swagger, bluesy undertones, mixed with some deep-fried southern doom, and topped with some diesel-laced mountain rock for good measure…" Yea, that sounds about right. Teddy and the Rough Riders are my favorite country band in Nashville. I'm lucky to have floated the idea of doing these tunes in an alley at the end of a long night of SXSW shows, where we were all stoned tired and agreed without much hesitation.—James Wallace/Skyway Man Last year, Skyway Man aka James Wallace doubled down on his cosmic leanings and released Seen Comin’ from A Mighty Eye. Recorded primarily with the Spacebomb house band, the album presented “exquisite psychedelic pop,” and was one of our favorites for 2017. Now his Skyness is back for a Lagniappe with local Nashville desperadoes, Teddy and the Rough Riders, in tow. This cover set’s more Sahm than Wilson. Four sublime cuts of breezy, extraterrestrial country asking to be played through the A.M. clock radio in the garage. So turn it up and dim the lights, crack a beverage, light your preferred smoke, and imagine you’re at Bobby’s Idle Hour for one last ride.—Jay Steele, Aquarium Drunkard Classic Country from Fishtown.

Heaven Man is a psychedelic entity born from the slums of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We create music based on love and the mindbending mythologies of humanoid ape creatures that may or may not roam the Pacific Northwest and Canadian Wilderness. With every note of every song, they reflect an image of the world as you know it. A mystical, energetic interpretation of the audience, of themselves, of the universe. Each hypnotic tone brings one deeper into an ethereal shadow of all existence, and each song seems to ask us if what we see is reality or an expansive reflection of a domain that lies deep within us all."
Crossing borders, jumping barriers, taking risks, betting it all: that’s the path Alejandro Escovedo has been taking in his lifelong search for the heart of rock and roll. Alejandro’s new album, The Crossing (YepRoc Records, September 14) is about that journey: searching, but not necessarily finding, eyes and ears open all the way. It is his first for Yep Roc Records and his first ever recorded in Europe. “This says more about me than any of my records without it being a record about me,” Alejandro says. The Crossing tells the tale of two boys, one from Mexico, one from Italy, who meet in Texas to chase their American rock and roll dreams. They discover a not-so-welcoming, very different place from the Promised Land they imagined, with cameos from the likes of Wayne Kramer of the MC5, Joe Ely and James Williamson of the Stooges to show the boys the way. It was recorded in an Italian farmhouse near Mogdliana and features his collaborator and co-songwriter Don Antonio with his band whom will be backing and opening for Alejandro. Don Antonio has backed numerous American acts in Europe but this will be their first ever tour of the US. Escovedo’s trailblazing career began with The Nuns, San Francisco's famed punk innovators, to the Austin-based-based alt-country rock pioneers, Rank & File, to Texas bred darlings, True Believers, through countless all-star collaborations and tribute album appearances and finally a series of beloved solo albums beginning with 1992's acclaimed...

Over the last few years, Latin American artist Juan Wauters has covered a lot of ground, both artistically and geographically. In 2016, Wauters directed the film Romane en Juin in the Southwest of France and in 2017 he performed for the first time in his birthplace of Uruguay. He’s also been traveling Latin America extensively, taking time to pause and rethink his life, his art and his career after releasing two critically acclaimed albums on Captured Tracks, 2014’s N.A.P.: North American Poetry and 2015’s Who Me?. As both time and place often have a unique influence on music, Wauters originally planned to record his next album while traveling, seeking a break from his life in New York City, the city he has called home since moving from Montevideo in 2002. He settled in Mexico City in 2017 to focus on writing. However, shortly after, he was offered a role in an independent film being shot in Argentina. Never one to turn down a creative opportunity, Wauters packed up his 100 pound mobile recording studio into two suitcases and took off to Buenos Aires. When filming was complete, Wauters wound up writing and recording all over Latin America — from Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, and Chile to Mexico and Puerto Rico — seeking collaboration at every stop with local musicians who embody the traditions and energies specific to each region. Puerto Rico was one of his first destinations. At a restaurant on the way to Charco Azul in Guavate – a natural swimming hole – Wauters heard a duo...

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a rock musical about a fictional rock and roll band fronted by a transgender East German singer, Hedwig Robinson. The book is by John Cameron Mitchell, and the music and lyrics are by Stephen Trask. The story draws on Mitchell's life as the son of a U.S. Army Major General who once commanded the U.S. sector of occupied West Berlin. The character of Hedwig was inspired by a German divorced U.S. Army wife who was a Mitchell family babysitter and moonlighted as a prostitute at her Junction City, Kansas, trailer park home. The music is steeped in the androgynous 1970s glam rock style of David Bowie (who co-produced the Los Angeles production of the show), as well as the work of John Lennon and early punk performers Lou Reed and Iggy Pop. Doors at 7:30 show at 8:05pm. Admission 21+. Event will have a bar that drinks may be purchased. Tickets are $20 if purchased online and $25 in cash at the door. PFS Presents Gina Chavez Friday, January 18, 2019Doors 7:30pm | Music 8pm $14 for Members *While Supplies Last* | $17 Not-Yet-Members | $20 Doors CLICK HERE TO RSVP ON FACEBOOK About Gina Chavez Austin musician Gina Chavez never thought she'd see the day when two women could marry in Texas. Then again, she never thought she would marry a woman. “Heaven Knows,” the first single off her upcoming five-song EP, Lightbeam, is the musical journey of twelve years in love; a love Chavez never thought she would experience. “I was 24, staunchly Catholic and I’d had great, healthy relationships. But I’d never been in love,” Chavez said. “Then I met this girl with a smile that made me question everything I thought I knew.” Lightbeam, set to release on Friday, September 14, 2018, is a sonic departure for Chavez who is known for her signature style of bilingual Latin folk-pop that topped the iTunes and Amazon Latin charts with her award-winning album, Up.Rooted. The 2015 Austin Musician of the Year traded her acoustic guitar for the smooth tones of a Gibson hollow body, and called upon producer Dwight A. Baker (MISSIO, Alpha Rev, The Wind and The Wave, Josh Abbott Band) to lay down five soulful and diverse songs, that expand upon her previous work with same lively and sophisticated spirit that her fans have grown to love. Lightbeam boasts intensely personal lyrics -- heaven knows our souls, our story / the shape of your heart when you hold me / wouldn’t tear us apart or disown me” --...
Cracker's tenth and most recent studio effort, the double-album, Berkeley To Bakersfield, finds this uniquely American band traversing two different sides of the California landscape -- the northern Bay area and further down-state in Bakersfield. Despite being less than a five-hour drive from city to city, musically, these two regions couldn't be further apart from one another. In the late '70s and '80s a harder-edged style of rock music emerged from the Bay area, while Bakersfield is renowned for its own iconic twangy country music popularized, most famously, by Buck Owens and Merle Haggard in the '60s and '70s. Yet despite these differences, they are both elements that Cracker's two cofounders, David Lowery and Johnny Hickman, have embraced to some degree on nearly every one of their studio albums over the last two decades. On Berkeley To Bakersfield, however, instead of integrating these two genres together within one disc, they've neatly compartmentalized them onto their own respective regionally-titled LPs. As Lowery explains, "On the Berkeley disc the band is the original Cracker lineup -- Davey Faragher, Michael Urbano, Johnny and myself. This is the first time this lineup has recorded together in almost 20 years. We began recording this album at East Bay Recorders in Berkeley, CA. For this reason we chose to stylistically focus this disc on the music we most associate with the East Bay: Punk and Garage with some funky undertones. To further match our sense of place we...

It’s time. Eight years have passed since the world of Punk Rock lost one of their greatest. The legendary frontman of Turbonegro, Hank Von Hell, left the scene and stated that he would never come back again. Fans all over the world have craved a return, begged him to reconsider. But Hank have firmly said “No”. Until now. Like the rise of a Phoenix, Hank Von Hell rises from the ashes and is once again re-born as Hank Von Hell.
